Who we are

In Australia, there is a Commonwealth Ombudsman as well as State and Territory ombudsman. The current Commonwealth Ombudsman is Professor John McMillan, who was appointed in 2003.

What you can expect from us

We will give careful attention to your complaint about an Australian Government department or agency, and if it raises a matter that we can and should investigate, we will do so as quickly as practicable, acting fairly, independently and impartially.

Current Ombudsman

Professor John McMillan was appointed Commonwealth Ombudsman in March 2003, and was reappointed in 2008 for a further five year term.
